If you ever want to quickly install node.js on an Amazon Linux box without having to compile from source, you can do it quickly with the following 3 commands:
cd /tmp wget http://nodejs.org/dist/v0.10.26/node-v0.10.26-linux-x64.tar.gz cd /usr/local && sudo tar --strip-components 1 -xzf /tmp/node-v0.10.26-linux-x64.tar.gz
And the you can confirm the install was successful with

The above wget command can be customized for a different version of node.js or a different architecture. You would just replace v0.10.26 with whatever version you are targetting and replace x64 with x86 if you want to target the 32-bit platform instead of the 64-bit.
